I offered you my hand my friend
For you needed one to hold
But in the process of guiding you
You kept my hands from gettig cold
I gave to you a friendly ear
For the woes you did confess
Not realizing you were listening too
Of pain I would not profess
I gave you a soft shoulder
Your head to rest with ease
But somehow it was my pain
That soon began to cease
I opened up a heart to you
Though battered it was true
You gentley handed it back to me
All healthy pink and new
I wanted so much to be a friend
Yet I would very soon learn
I gave away my friendship
And got an angel in return
